This part of the website is a visual companion to my dissertation, Imagining the Earth: prints as evidence in natural philosophical discourse, 1640-1740. Here, you find high-quality scans of the prints, to browse or study them in more detail than is possible in a book.
The prints are presented in the order in which they appear in the chapter, although several images are not included due to copyright restrictions. Bibliographical information is included in the title of each file and is usually limited to the year of publication, author of the work in which the print appears (or producer of the image, in the case of stand-alone prints), and the institution where this print is being kept today. For reference, see Image attribution.
